today jacob came back from nursery having had no milk as usual cos he refuses it, a bowl and half of his lunch and no pud. at 1.45 he started crying for milk (had no milk since 5.15 am) so I gave a bottle as i'm cutting back on breastfeeding now. he was fine all the way through. then when i lay him back to see if he had had enough or wanted some breast milk (i top up with breast till he gets used to the bottle during the day) he vomited EVERYWHERE. his lunch and all the milk came up. He was fine and dandy afterwards, in fact he wanted to play with the puke! spoke to doc just incase, but all ok, just overeating.

The thing i'm unsure about is why it happened today when he had same amount of lunch and milk the day before? and do I change the way I feed him, and tell the nursery to give him less, or do I wait to see if it happens again?

and why did I get so upset when I know he's ok? I got really shaky despite my best attempts at being brave!!!

  1. My daughter pukes all the time.  In fact, just this morning, minutes after I fed her, she fell asleep.  She started to wake up 15 minutes later, and puked all over her bed and clothing!  Afterwards, she seemed happy and wanted to play!  Weird I know!  I don't think it's overeating-I think it's because I laid her down to sleep immediately after her feeding.

  2. It happens all the time to some babys, They just get hot and puke. Just like you get nauseous and feel like puking when you get hot. Nothing to worry about.

  3. My son is Jacob too and he sometimes overeats and then he throws up. ::sigh:: that child is just so hungry but doesn't know when to stop asking for more lol. My boy is 11 weeks old.

  4. just curious, how old is your son?

my daughter threw up once when she was about 2 weeks old from over eating. my husband had gotten up with her in the middle of the night to feed and change her. well, she had a bellyache from not being burped enough, but my husband kept feeding her anyway. she ended up taking in almost 6 ounces! he handed her to me because he couldn't get her to stop crying, and she vomited everywhere! all 6 ounces came up at once, all over my bed. she was fine afterwards, and fell right asleep.

i've known toddlers to over eat and throw up afterwards too. sometimes eating too fast can cause over eating too. if you eat too fast, your stomach dosen't have enough time to tell you that you are full, therefore you can be past the point of being full, but still eating. sometimes if you go longer than usual without eating then scarf down a whole meal, it can make you sick to your stomach too.

with your little guy, if he's never done this before, i would just keep an eye on him for the next couple days. closely watch how much he's eating, what he's eating, etc...if everything is normal and dosen't happen again, you can rest assured that mabye he just had a bellyache.

  5. Has he puked before? Did you cough before he puked? My son used to puke all the time, he had a gag re-flex problem. I thought maybe b/c I didn't burp him enough. But it just always happen after he ate. What it was, was that he was either gagging with too much saliva. But one small gag would make him throw up,..It's because his stomach was full but just done eating so everything was still on top. And he threw up before it was settled.... Don't get shaky or scared. It happens and they can read you! If you show them that you are scared then they will be scared as well.!
