Question:

Anyone else hate Styrofoam popcorn used for packing?

It seems trivial, but I am curious as to why it used as often as it is when there a few better alternatives. I hear the stuff is horrible for the environment; the stuff makes a huge mess and is hard to dispose of. You can’t even open the box and remove your received item without the stuff getting everywhere. Static electricity makes it cling to you. I put out my trash which included a large box with the stupid popcorn in it last night. This morning the box had blown over and the popcorn blew all over the street. Why is the use of this product not widely discouraged? That is what I don’t understand. Thanks for your input.

  1. YES!  I really don't understand why it is still used, since there is a similar product that is made out of corstarch and it disolves instantly in water.  I say write to every company that you receive goods from in this way that you are disappointed in their choice of packaging materials, and for the money they charge in shipping and handling, they can afford to use friendlier, and even biodegradeable materials in their packaging (we all know they gouge us on S&H).  Letting them know that you will not make purchases from their business in the future unless you are assured that the packaging is friendlier to you and the planet.  Believe it or not, many businesses are becoming savy to environmental concerns, and are making changes to attract evironmentally concious consumers.  The best way to change things is to let them know what you think!

  2. i love it every time i get it i put it in the Attic of my house i have 4 inches there now.

    makes good insulation

  3. I love the stuff. lol, lol, lol, lol, lol, lol, lol.

  4. I like it. It's lightweight, reducing the energy needed to get the package from sender to recipient. It's effective, so fewer fragile items get broken and wasted. It's also reusable so I can re-use all I get. Shame on you for putting it out in the trash.

  5. I can't stand the stuff either. Especially if you accidentally grind to pieces together!! huh!!!!!!!!

  6. It should be banned.

  7. You're so right, and I would go further: all forms of Styrofoam should be banned. If China can ban the plastic bag, surely the rest of the world can ban Styrofoam.

Meanwhile, don't throw it away. Store it and re-use it, and when you do, add a note to the receiver that he/she is expected to re-use it as well.
