My husband and I are wanting to have a baby. I have done tons of research on pregnancy, and costs of a child. However I can not find much information on being in the navy and having a child. My husband is active duty Navy.

I know that medical is covered and there is a dental plan. But I want to know if there is any other benefits. I want to know what we are getting into as far as the military goes, what to expect, will he get paternal leave when the child is born, do they pay extra that sort of thing??? He is already getting extra BAH for me being a dependent. If you know anything let me know please. Thanks

  1. extra money...no. They are classified as either with or without dependents no matter how many and he already has dependents. They also have eye coverage. and mental health coverage.

  2. He won't get anything extra paywise.  He is already getting dependent BAH since you are married.  There is no other extra pay.

He can put in for annual leave when the baby is born.  It can be granted or declined just like any other leave.  Most commands will absolutely grant him leave for his child's birth.

  3. You get more bedrooms in base housing the more kids you have.

  4. he can get extra money to support it

  5. nothing will change moneywise accept the money you'll recieve during a PCS transfer.

as for the medical, your baby will get whatever you have.
