Ok, my whirlpool tub always leaves a residue of chalky brown stuff after I finish filling and running the tub. Its really disgusting and I know that it's floating around in the water as myself, or my girlfriend takes a bath.

And No, Im not THAT dirty that I'd leave a buildup of brown stuff in the tub, lol. this is definitely either from the piping or something else.

Anyone else have this happen? What it is and how do I fix it?

  1. I know you are not a dirty person at all......what happens is that after a number of washings, your tub builds up the dirt from washing all the clothes.    You need to put about 2 cups of vinegar and 2 or 3 tablesppons of baking soda and put it through one whole cycle to clean itself off.    It really works!

  2. I think Flo misunderstood the Question!!! She thinks you are Washing clothes in a tub in the Wash Machine I would Guess!!!

But Anyway... Depending on how old your home is and what type of water system and kind of pipes you may have just might be a major player in this. Do you have a water softener? Does your water have a Smell to it at all?? You might have heavy iron and sulfur in your area!! you may need a home filter on the water main coming into the house before the water softener, also have you drained your water heater lately?? it should be done every year!! it may have a heavy build-up of rust and scale from years of service!!

Also if your home is an old one... it may have the old iron pipe and rust and scale have built up in these as well! Every time the city adds chemicals to the water to clean the "WATER SYSTEM" they will also get into your pipes as well... if you live in the city!! or if in the country a good storm may cause clay or dirt and even if you live near a farm the water may get debris in it from what as well... so a filter is recommended as first resort. and cleaning water heater next, and possible changing of the pipes next,,, depending on the age of them!!
