Question:

Anyone else have any issues re-adjusting back to civilian life after a deployment and getting out?

Anyway been out for 7 months, unemployment is running out, and I seem to have no motivation on seeking employment, and after 10 1/2 years in the military I miss it, but got out cause I was sick of being gone all the time.

I guess my question is what have any of you gone through and done to get your lives back on track.

Thanks

  1. Well if i were you since you've been in long..change you service like say Air Force or Coast Guard because they deploy much less and coast guard not at all..It would be natural for you to fit back in. Even though i know that the original service you selected (Marine Corps,Navy,Army) is like pride and you probably couldn't see yourself in any other one, but you know the benefits and i think that would be best instead of having to be a civilain again

  2. I had no problem, I spent two consecutive years in Vietnam 67-68 and finshed the remaining time stateside. I had no prospects for a job, as I went in at 17 out of high school. So I went to college, held two jobs doing it, and worked at several other when i graduated. I fell into a job that made some moneyu for me, but then searched and searched for almost three years for the right one and found it.....in the meantime you get any job that pays your bills. Be persistant, adapt ovecome!

    USMC 67-68 Vietnam

  3. I have no advice (non-military), just wanted to say thanks to both of you for your service.

  4. Every day man. I am still in the Guard,  but my life has never been the same. One thing I might suggest to you is FORCING yourself to get moving. I found it harder the longer I waited and found that I wasn't able to cope as easily. My family ending up suffering through some of it due to my drinking. My best advice to you is to get in contact with some of your buddies and see what they have done since you've been out and see what they are doing to cope. In addition to missing the military, try contacting a different branch recruiter and see what they have to offer. Try maybe the Air Forch or Coasties. Less deployments and shorter deployment times. Worth a shot. Hope this helps troop.

  5. i guess it's a problem for some.i just got out and was so glad i was alive that i just kept on going.
