Question:

Anyone else have problems with Acuvue Oasys contact lenses? ?

I have been wearing contacts for fourteen or so years, and am now at a prescription of -6.50.

My doctor just switched me to Oasys. I think I had the Advances or the 2's before; whatever they were- they worked fine for me.

However, I HATE the Oasys contacts.

I'm young, and I stay up late often. But, these contacts seem to want to prevent that. At night they get ridiculously dry and sticky; blinking becomes painful. It happens every night without fail, sometimes sooner than other nights. Its worse when I start to get a little sleepy, the dryness becomes unbearable quicker. Going to bed seems like the easy solution to that, but if I'm watching a movie its unfortunate that I can't even finish it. Also, I know you're not advised to sleep in contacts, but sometimes I do. These are quite painful if I do fall asleep with them, though. I'm accustomed to waking up with my eyes slightly sticky if I fall asleep with contacts in, but not a searing burn that I experience with the Oasys. It takes me a good five minutes to peel my eyes open when I wake up.

I've dealt with it for a few months, but I'm getting really frustrated now. I'm going to make an appt. with my optometrist on Monday. I was just wondering if anyone is experiences this, similar problems, or other problems in general with the Acuvue Oasys?

  1. I just got a trial pair of the Oasys lenses, since it's supposed to help dry and you can leave them in longer. I hate them! I get bad headaches because my eyes get irritated. I just took them out and on my left eye there was a bright red ring around the iris of my left eye-in the exact spot where the contact was. I am kind of scared! I've always had red and irritated eyes, but I've never had that happen to me before. I don't like them. I find they make my eyes really dry, especially at night-no matter how many rewetting drops I put in! When I take them out, it's like they are stuck on my eye and don't want to come off : (.Oh, and like you I've had other Acuvue lenses that worked fine for me, just not Oasys.

  2. yes, my eyes sound the same as yours - they become very red, dry, somewhat painful. i'm surprised too, because i thought the acuvue oasys was supposed to let more oxygen in. i'm guessing that perhaps the shape of my eye changed, or somehow the chemistry? i'm planning on going to the eye doctor soon, i recommend you do the same, maybe you'll find a better lens for your eyes.

also, perhaps the solution you are using isn't working for you? have you tried clearcare to remove protein buildup?

  3. no, in fact my eyes feel better with the acuvue contacts than with the other kinds i've tried.  i think that certain kinds of contacts just work for different people.  I would definitely go back to your doctor and try a new brand
