Question:

Anyone else have the State Department lose their passport?

I mailed my old passport in to the State Department's processing center last February to renew it, and I haven't gotten it back yet. After calling their 1-800 number ten times I gave up, since I got booted because 'no one was available to assist' me every time I called. Their website says my application could not be found, and I got a cryptic email back from them referring me to the worthless travel.state.gov website.

Should I go to the nearest embassy to ask for a new passport? Since I live in DC, that would be the Kuwaiti embassy, but soon to be Chinese embassy once they are done with construction on Connecticut Avenue. Maybe I should go down to 18th street and see if Condy can help me out?;-) She'd probably just refer me to the website.

No, seriously, anyone have this experience yet? Any suggestions on how to expedite the passport issue with the State Department since they lost my application, even after cashing my check?

  1. You can rant and rave and write foolishly about renewing a US passport through a foreign embassy, or you can simply re-apply, sending copies of documentation relating to the first application, including proof of payment.  I'll let you figure out which approach will resolve the situation more quickly.
