I am 29 weeks pregnant, and took my 3 hour glucose test yesterday at the lab, which wasn't very enjoyable (I hate needles & felt sick the whole time).

I happened to have a doctor's appointment scheduled for today because I needed to get the Rhogam shot. I asked if my labs were in yet, so the nurse called the lab. The lab said they only had 3 of my blood samples (not the 4 they were supposed to). So one was lost or is missing. Here is the kicker: 1 of the 3 they did have came back abnormal, which means the 4th would determine if I have gestational diabetes or not. I asked the doctor if they cannot find it if it would be necessary to retake the test (which I really don't want to do). She pretty much told me either I take it again or they treat me like I am diabetic, which will involve a lot more needles. I was so annoyed & frustrated!

Anyone else having a bad/frustrating day?

  1. This can happen to someone who is not pregnant.  Yes it is annoying but it happens.  The lab should redo your test and yes you will have to get stuck again.

Get the test done again and just remember that it could happen to someone who is not pregnant but may be diabetic, someone who's won't go away after they give birth.

  2. I think that it is hormones. Dont feel bad,,, the phlebotomist that took my blood for those tests,,,,,,,,WAS ON HER CELL PHONE TO VERIZON trying to get her bill straightened out! Maybe if she was paying attention to what she was doing it wouldnt have hurt so bad. I usually have an okay time giving blood. I get those aggrivated moments too! . I am 11 weeks pregnant. I wake up some days lately and I dont want to talk to anyone at work and people that normally I am fine with,,,,,,,,p**s me off. Its football fantasy time at work and thats all they talk about for hours on end and I feel like I am going to puke! When you are pregnant, it seems like everyone treats your complaints as moody and prego complaints. I am there with you sister!

  3. Just to encourage you, you will not necessarily have to be faced with more needles if you do have Gestational Diabetes or they treat you as if you have it.  I had Gestational Diabetes with my 4th baby and was able to manage it with diet and monitoring my blood glucose levels.  The monitoring did involve pricking your finger with a lancet, which I guess could be viewed as a needle, but not every woman with Gestational Diabetes has to take insulin injections.  I haven't come across a person yet who enjoys being stuck with needles, I suppose there are some out there, but most don't like it.  Yes, it is frustrating, but it is possible the lab will find your 4th blood sample.  Only about 3-5% of pregnant women develop Gestational Diabetes and if you are young and have no other risk factors, your risk of having it are quite low.  I, too, felt sick during my 3 hour glucose tolerance test and it lasted for several days afterwards.  I have recently been diagnosed with Glucose Intolerance, a pre-diabetic condition, which unfortunately you are at a higher risk of getting if you've had Gestational Diabetes.  I am actually have a fairly good day, but having been a mom for 29 years to 4 kids plus I have been a child care provider in my home for 20 years, I have certainly gone through some bad, frustrating days.  If you have to have the 3 hour glucose test again ask if there are other flavors of the glucose solution.  The orange really made me feel terrible and they offered me a cola flavored which sat much better on my stomach.

  4. nothing like that i would be pissed.. i would be like would you want to be treated like a diabetic if you arent are you stupid do you think i would want all that problems and needles and all that diabetic stuff for nothing of course i'll take the tests again this time dont loose my ****.

my day was ok until my husband came home for lunch and before he had to leave gets mad at me and sarcastic about how the food was good and he's full. he didnt eat. i didnt know if he wanted me to re-cook what i made last night if i was making him something.. he didnt call ahead of time which i prefer least gives me a heads up and if i had to reheat something by time he walks in the door it would be hot.. than sometimes he may not even want to eat or talk **** or eat like very last minute.. gets me mad
