Anyone else having trouble finding a job?

i'm in my late 20's, and work as a journalist. i'm trying to get into the communications/public relations field...but no luck after sending out resumes every week since february! not one interview!!!

i have proven experience in the field and a great portfolio...so i'm not sure what the problem is here. has anyone had a similar experience? please help!

  1. depending on where you live, many communities have local interest papers/magazines that you may be able to get in a story or two as a freelancer.  

    Have you considered being a consultant or a teaching assistant in your field?

  3. Try to get an internship on the weekend or nights - you'll work for free, but you'll get you foot in the door while still searching for work.  As you know this field is highly competitive, so waiting is part of being in this field.

  4. There's probably a local organization for people in the specific area. Find it and get some advice from them.

    Maybe there are gatherings at local colleges that are specific. Don't rule one out and don't oversell. What you're doing is networking, looking for someone to help you make contacts.

    Don't rule out talking to people in your own trade carefully) to get a handle on someone who might help with networking.
