Question:

Anyone else here in rock/metal love the blues also?

Just wondering, I love great guitar work and to me the two best genres for guitar is rock/metal and blues. Two of my favorite guitarists are Zack Wylde and BB King, how's that for a combo! Not to mention that musically the two genres have a lot in common.

Thanks

  1. Real musicians do not care for genre labels

I love BB King and Clapton and Hendrix... John Lee Hooker and Bo Diddely are also big faves of mine. of course I listen to these guys alongside the likes of Megadeth and Annihilator and Iron Maiden!

  2. I remember a quote, I don't know who by, but it went something like this: "Metal is just the blues, cranked up".  It's true.  Listen to any metal band, besides symphonic/neoclassical stuff (and of course black metal) and it's entirely based on the blues.  When I play guitar, those are the two genres I mainly play.

The blues are awesome.  Respect the roots.

  3. I like some Sony Williams actually. It's not weird if you think that blues actually inspired/spawned rock n'roll. The fact that I listened to Led Zeppelin also helped. The moods are different though.

  4. I love anyone that can play guitar... and I don't care about what label is placed upon their music...

    Jimmy Page

    Buddy Guy

    SRV

    Joe Satriani

    Ritchie Havens

    Nancy Wilson

    Jeff Beck

    Robin Trower

    Ronnie Montrose

    Tony Iommi

    Ritchie Blackmore

    BB King

    Hendrix

    Chet Atkins

    Mark Knopfler

I could name dozens of players....
