Anyone else here remember when gas hit $1 a gallon? (US)?

Lots of people were so upset!

The machines could not be set for prices $1 or over, because of the number of digits. So stations set them for half the price, and just charged you twice what the machine said.

Just reminiscing here.

Yep ... it actually meant you could put in spare change if need be and still get where you needed to go.  Nowadays, you need a ten dollar bill to have the same effect.

Oh yeah! I remember the good old days. I can recall filling up my first car with a $5 and sometimes getting a little change back. Gas was about 50 cents back then. Dang I'm getting old.....and poor.

Yep ... you got that correct ... and I even remember when gas was .29 a gallon. My dad would pull in and say two bucks of regular and even get change ....They pumped the gas and even checked the oil and water ....  plus he got trading stamps or a free gift. My how things have changed. Now that is reminiscing.
