  1. Yes, but then I live in Scotland and you can get them in any supermarket.

  2. I make scotch eggs for others, but I do not like them myself.  I would rather have the sausage on the side with fried eggs.  I think it is the hardboiled egg I really do not like.  They are really easy to make - so you could try them at home.

For those that don't know what Scotch eggs are...here is the recipe I use:

    Scotch Eggs

This recipe makes 6 Scotch eggs.

    6 hard-cooked eggs, well chilled

    1 pound breakfast sausage

    1/2 cup flour

    2 eggs, beaten

    3/4 cup fine bread crumbs

    Vegetable oil for frying

Peel eggs and set aside. Divide sausage into 6 portions. Roll each egg in flour and with hands press a portion of the sausage around each egg.

Dip sausage-wrapped eggs into beaten eggs and roll in bread crumbs. Heat vegetable oil to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Cook each egg in oil about 4-5 minutes or until sausage is cooked and browned. Drain on paper toweling. Serve warm.

Editted:  Oh, yes..you asked about Toronto... You might check these places:

A two-level pub decked out in moulded plywood, the Abbot attracts a less genteel cross-section of the Rosedale/Summerhill set who scarf Scotch eggs, fish 'n' chips and shepherd's pie while getting the next round of pints in.

    THE ROSE & THORNE PUB

    Etobicoke's Best Pub and Restaurant

    264 Brown's Line

    Etobicoke

    (416) 233-8827

    Scotch Egg                                       $4.50

Egg wrapped in pork sausage and seasoned breading,

fried golden with our own mango chutney
