  1. im a liverpool fan. and we have benefitted greatly from this current format. but i agree with you. i was always proud of the fact that when we really dominated europe in the 70,s and 80,s. we were either champions of england or champions of europe! lets face facts. this format is all about generating money. i feel sorry for the smaller countries who never get a sniff of the champions league. even though we beat standard leige last night. i still feel that they have more right to be participating in the group stages than we do! im not complaining but the old european cup was the best! the competition contradicts itself. how can it be called the champions league when 75% of the teams involved are not champions! there are more REAL champions in the uefa cup!

  2. I do because it meant that the players had to give 100% in every game and not think well we still have a few more games to play after this one and they had to play to win.

  3. You're right,It's a piece of nonsense calling it the champions league, when only about half of the teams in it are champions of their country.

  4. Bring back the old days! Champions vs Champions Cup winners against cup winners and let the rest fight over the Uefa cup!

The way it is now only makes the rich teams richer and does nothing for the rest of europe!

How predictable has the Champions league become over the last few years??

  5. I did prefer the old way but that isn't gona do much good for Scottish Clubs, we need the money the guaranteed 6 matches makes for us, also us fans get 6 nights of euro football, away from the dross of our own league. If it went to a knockout we could draw the top teams 1st round every year and go out, we wouldn't get any better without the experience

They should change the name back to the European Cup

  6. Yes, it was better, harder to win because it was a neccesity to perform on the night, rather than over a course of matches - e.g - Liverpool got 1 point out of 3 games last season and got to the semis?

nhojit - i agree with the champions bit but not cup winners!
