i've only read number one, and i hated it.

it offended me, actually. batman was depicted as violent and overly gritty. went too far with just about every criminal he got his hands on, and that's something he just doesn't do. he always knows when to stop and just leave it to the law, and he didn't in this.

batman reminded me of the man he became in the legends of the dark knight books 16-20, venom, when he was on steroids. he was violent and creepy and completely not himself. especially the evil laughing, it was something batman would never do.

he was a jerk, and it really didn't make any sense because if you're a jerk as batman, and then everyone thinks you're a jerk as bruce wayne, wouldn't that just completely give it away? he puts on this jerky playboy facade so people won't think he's batman. if he's actually like that, it doesn't work.

the art was beautiful, though, and i liked the idea of robin knowing him as batman before bruce. but overall, it was offensive that anyone would see batman as acting that way.

also, did anyone else notice how often he was referred to as "the goddamn batman"? it was like his new name.

i just wanted to get some different opinions on it. thanks. :)

  1. Yes, and you are not alone.  If you were offended by the first issue, just wait till you get through the next few.  The "G-D Batman" line becomes almost a running gag.

The crazy thing is that issue 10 will be coming out in Sept. and no real story has even started!  Jim Lee's art is nice, but he is sooooo slow.

All that and I'm strangely hooked into seeing what will happen next.
