I'm reposting this question because we got knocked off Yahoo Answers due to a "coffee break"

Anyways, What did you think?

I saw it last night with my husband.... It was very eye opening. It makes the case for home births and natural births. It really has made me NOT want to have a baby in a hospital. I would recommend it to others to watch. Would you ever consider a homebirth now?

  1. I have seen parts of that documentary. I am for natural birth, I had my daughter with no medication at the hospital. I would just be so afraid that something bad would happen and I was not in the hospital.  Also the American Medical Association are against home births and call them dangerous and want them banned. I think it's a personal choice and it should not be against the law, but in the very least women should be informed of the safety of choosing a home-birth. This link talks about Ricki Lake's documentary

  2. I saw that and after words my husband and I thought we should for sure do the home birth method.  We were all for it.  Unfortunately I live in a small town and the nearest birthing center/midwife was 3 hours away.  So in the end we thought it might not be best to go somewhere so far from home and instead with the OBGYN in our area and I really like him and feel really comfortable with him.  Maybe if my situation was different I would try the natural birth because it made a lot of sense.

  3. I know many women have been happy with their homebirth experiences, but I would never choose one.  Had I chosen that route during my last pregnancy, my son probably would have died or been born with serious brain damage.  And I was what would have been considered an "excellent candidate" for a home birth, based on how my pregnancy had gone up until that point.  But you never know what could happen, and I thank God I was in a hospital setting, hooked up to monitors, so they could see that my son was experiencing distress.  The c-section my doctor ultimately recommended probably saved his life, as we discovered upon his birth that the cord was wrapped around my son's neck 2 1/2 times, and it was constricting around his neck every time I had a contraction.  Trying to give birth vaginally might have killed him or left him seriously impaired due to a lack of oxygen.

  4. I haven't seen that yet, but I read about it.

I probably would consider a home birth, if it weren't illegal in my state (Ohio) :/
