  1. I'm right along with you girl!!! The names are either too common, or too "out there", or too "girly".. it is so frustrating!! My husband's name is Nicholas Hunter.. but Hunter is soooo common here where we live!!! Good luck finding a name and cross your fingers I'll find one too! :)

  2. I feel your pain.  I had the perfect boy name picked out (Micah) and always had my heart set on it- so guess what?  I had a girl!  We had the hardest time.  We looked at SO many online baby sites (something I said I'd never do) and hubby set up a spreadsheet with all the options we didn't hate.  I really wanted to pick a name or middle name that he really liked or that he had found, and we did!  I chose Savannah and he found Gracelyn and Gracie- so it is Savannah Gracelyn and we call her Gracie.  We went back and forth with calling her by a nickname for her middle name, but in the end decided it was perfect and we didn't care what anyone else thought.

That's my advice- take everyone else out of the equation, and take a break from it for a while- then maybe the perfect name will pop out when you least expect it.

  3. I feel the same way.  I'm so picky about names and want to settle on a name that everybody else doesn't already have.  I've been through so many baby name books.  I did have a girls name that I liked but since then I had my first sonogram and the technician said the baby is in a breach position right now and it's hard to tell, but he thinks it's a boy.  So now it feels like I have to start all over again to find the right name.  Good luck though.

  4. I'm actually kind of addicted to names, and I'm not even pregnant. It's sad, lol. If you need any help finding a name I'd be willing to help you... Just email me =]

And before you quit, you might want to play around with Nymbler. It's an excellent tool that suggests names according to your own personal taste. For instance, if you like the name Aidan, but are put off by the popularity of the name, Nymbler might suggest less popular names that are a similar style, like Declan and Kieran. Here's the link: http://www.nymbler.com/

  5. have you tried getting books from the library? it was easy for us. we both liked the same names. jonas for a boy and jocelyn for a girl. we are having a girl. im sure you will find a good name. good luck to you.

  6. You will find the right name when least expecting too

  7. Just wait until he is born and when you see him you will know what his name is meant to be

Here are a couple of my favorite boy names

    Presley

    Preston

    Lance

    Huntington or Hunter

    Chaysen

  8. The best suggestion I can come up to help is to not just look for a "cute" baby name, but find a reason for a name.

Think of loved ones (living or dead) you'd might like to honor by naming your child after.  The name doesn't have to be exact to be considered an honor, which means it's possible to honor a woman in naming your son (both of our son's are named after women, but they are still BOY names).  You can also look at middle names and maiden names.  A simple example that comes to mind is to name a girl Kaitlyn in honor of someone named Kate, Kathy, Lynn, or Linda (sorry, we just recently named our daughter due later this year, so girls names have been on the mind).  I've also heard of people inventing new names combining some parts of two or more loved ones names.  If you still are not satisfied with what you've come up with, break out the scrabble board.  Basically, list two or three people you would like to honor.  Write down the letters in those names.  Now look through lists of baby names that can be made with those letters.  Once you've made a list of all possibilities you would consider (for first or middle), begin looking for pairs (first and middle) that will ensure that at least ALL the letters are used at least once (even better if you can find a name where the letters are literally rearranged).

    Good Luck.

BTW, we used this scrabble method to name our third child.  We were able to find a large array of possible names (when you consider dropping duplicate letters).  When we found one combination that included a first name we were considering and a middle name that was acceptable, that was our eureka moment... it only took 5 minutes from the moment we found the name until we made the final decision.
