Sounds good to me. There could be many categories like Best Rubbing recipe, or Who Can Turn a Rack of Lamb the Quickest.  International Beef Brushing, Are You A Marinade Monster or Monkey?  Best Grillmeister, and maybe a category as to how fast can you build the largest working grill.

Having just had a plate of some of the best smoked beef brisket I've ever had, I'd say "yes", bring on the gold!  Not only could there be a barbecue competition, but a competition for smoked meats, as well.  And, for grilling, there would, of course, have to be separate categories for charcoal and gas grilling and then break down the contests by type of protein (beef, pork, chicken, etc.).  Of course, once all the pits and grills are fired up, it would be hard for the contestants from other contests to concentrate with the wonderful smells that would fill the air!
