Question:

Anyone else think Lester should have won best moment at ESPYs?

This guy came back from having cancer a year ago and throws a no-hitter in front of the home fans. I can't help but think that a guy who recovers from cancer and throws a no hitter in Major League Baseball is more impressive than a couple of college girls that carried a player around the bases to help her complete her homerun. Not taking anything away from how nice that was...but was that really a better moment?

  1. yes

  2. Again...when did people start caring about the ESPYs?

  3. The players that carried her were from the opposing team. Yes, it was a much better moment than Lester's no hitter.

  4. I think Lester's story is more impactful than someone who doesn't know how to run the bases. I know it's the sportsmanship factor, but still, its not very inspiring to me since millions of people are affected in some way by cancer, whereas the softball thing was a random act of kindness that can only be brought on by a 1 in a million circumstance.

  5. it was a better moment

  6. that should've won. it is one of the greatest stories in sports.

  7. The Girls will have the longest lasting impact!

I believe Lester does deserve something....but the Girls story

    is what Sports need!

  8. The best moment is probably the only one that they got right that night.  This moment shows true sportsmanship.  Something that is lacking in pro sports.  So Lester recovered from cancer and threw a no hitter (not to sound callused), but Lance Armstrong recovered from cancer and won SEVEN Tour de Frances...a much more impressive feat.  The best moment award is not about what was more impressive.  It was about the moment.  These girls showed true sportsmanship...something that young people can look at and say "that is how things should be done."  This was absolutely the best moment.

The rest of the ESPY's were a joke...David Beckham as the best MLS player? Give me a break. Tim Tebow as as best male college athlete? Wrong choice. The Mississippi Miracle was a far better play than the Manning to Tyree play, but because it wasn't the NFL it never had a chance. Best breakthrough athlete should not have been Adrian Peterson. Only reason he won...NFL. Wrong choice again.

The ESPYs have turned into nothing but a big popularity contest, and it's a sad thing to see.

And please...NEVER let Justin Timberlake host this event anymore. That was about as bad a choice as most of the winners this year.

  9. I think Lester's game was the better story and certainly the better achievement. I watched that game live and it was truly incredible to watch. It was a great personal achievement and is a great inspiration for anyone who has to overcome adversity.

The reason I like the softball story is because it was an act of selflessness and sportsmanship. It shows that there are still people out there that put a premium on their personal character and doing the right thing, not just winning. It was also more a 'moment' than an entire no hitter.

I think either could have won and I wouldn't have had a problem with it.

  10. I was also surprised he did not win.  To come back from cancer and throw a no hitter is quite an accomplishment.  I do believe it was a much better moment and was surprised the college girl thing was considered the moment.

  11. yes exacttly

  12. Lester's story is better, but that moment with the girls was bettter if we're just looking at the moment

    both are great no doubt
