Anyone else think global warming is?

Really a strategy to distract consumers, making "going green" and cutting back on oil consumption seem en vogue? Is global warming awareness more of an effort to soften the blow of an impending oil crises?

Global warming is but a component, in a group of destructive forces at work such as ;deforestation,desertification,soil and water contamination ,irresponsible or wasteful utilization of bio resources , air pollution,Non sustainable Agriculture,over pumping carbon aquifers

all concepts which are definitely not part of the Natural Processes of the Natural world

WHICH WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR,

The most prolific growth on this planet is part of the day in the mist and most of the time under clouds ,and the least growth is always directly in the sun .

To exchange the one for the other means changing local climates

We are exchanging Nature with Tar , concrete and open spaced mono cultures.

In 300 years half of the planets forests have gone ,and in the last 50 years half of the wet lands ,and rain forests

These Areas absorb heat during the day and release heat at night ,

Cause cloud formation(shade).humidifying the air on the surface as well as releasing excess water at the roots that keep rivers flowing ,which in turn brings more water into the Environment .

As well as contributing to absorbing carbon emissions as do the leaves of the trees together with the oceans .

All in all many factors which directly affect the local Environment .

The loss of the above resulting in rivers drying up ,less rain ,desertification,loss of habitat for many species and so on.

dryer and hotter surface environments which can manifest in different weather patterns such as tornadoes or bush fires

I may be stupid or Naive but somehow i believe that lots of these local environmental changes, can add up to affect global weather, If there are enough of them (and there are)

A cocktail of events and a lot of the ingredients have MAN written all over them

So it is safe to assume that we should look at ourselves ,just a teeny bit ,for possible improvements ,and rectifying Eco errors that are with in our powers.

There is no such thing as Global Warming, just natural ebbs in the world's climate. One big Volcano will actually reverse any global warming trend, and then it will start all over again. Man has not been keeping temperature records long enough to know what the Earth's natural cycles really are. Global Warming is just another scare tactic that Special Interest, and some Governments, use to control the Masses and get their way.

The debate isn't about wheather the Earth is warming or not, we are clearly in a warming phase based on all the available evidence to date.  The real question is wheather humans are the cause of global warming.  I tell you this.  Man is fanatically arrogant to think his presence on the Earth has any real effect on the Earth.  The Earth has been around roughly 4.3 billlion years and has gone through all kinds of heating, cooling, destruction etc long before we ever showed up.  Nature has a way of reminding us who's really in charge when it simply wipes out millions of people from natural disasters over thousands of years.  The fact that we ask such questions, shows that we think way to highly of ourselves, and our place in the universe.  Mankind is nothing more than a few parasites or viruses that showed up late to the party, and is on the verge of extinction.  And we deserve extinction!

Hmmm... my response is, does it matter?

Your underlying point is that there is an impending oil crisis/we need to cut back on oil consumption, something I happen to agree with you on.

Now, whether you cut back because:

It will slow down man's impact upon the climate (GW) or;

It will save people money or;

It will make our local environments nicer places to live in (less pollution & smog) or;

It will make countries more secure by lessening their dependence on imports...

doesn't really matter, as long as people cut back does it?

More than likely we will need to appeal to all of these reasons to get enough people to cut back. So:

If you are worried about terrorism, reduce your oil consumption!

If you are worried about local pollution, reduce your oil consumption!

If you are worried about the economy/inflation, reduce your oil consumption!

If you are worried about global warming, reduce your oil consumption!

Don't get hung up on other people's opinion or reason for cutting back, just hope that it works!

Global warming is a natural occurance that no government can do anything about. It is caused by a number of factors, including changes to the Earths orbit, output of undersea vulcanoes and a host of other natural causes.

Greenies are nothing but terrorists trying to undermine the global economy, and are responsible for the price speculation that has forced fuel prices so high.

Concerns over global warming have been going on since the 70's at least.   Well before the mainstream actually had any interest in global warming.   The fears over an oil crisis have been going on, seperately, for even longer.   So the answer is no.   Global warming and the oil crisis are both serious problems, both backed by substantial evidence and both linked to each other.

Yes, man has contributed to Global warming.
