  1. i am in my high school band and i do not play those instruments but the saxaphone but all that i have to tell you is that practice will improve your tone a tremendous amount no lie. just keep practicing and do lip slurs. it may take a long time for an effect to show but it will work in the long run i can promise you that. i hope i helped and good luck with your brass instruments.

  2. I play euphonium and have used both euph and trombone mouthpieces, which to my knowledge seem identical.  Therefore, I think it's safe to say that tone variation is more related to your slide technique since when you were playing euph, you would press certain valves and that would be it.  When there is a slide involved, there isn't that exactness so you need to be even more exact with your mouth.

Do you have access to regular lessons?  It's very important to at least get one or two, because practicing something incorrectly is more harmful than not practicing!  After that, just play as much as you can.

  3. I play euphonium and I plan to double on  trombone later, but I don't yet. I'll hope and assume that the same advice goes towards trombones as it does to all brass players.

-keep the corners of your mouth firm while the center is relaxed.

    -blow faster air.

    -keep your throat opened.

-be confident about what you're playing. (even if you're playing everything wrong, just keep playing on and telling yourself that it's fine. The worse opinion you have about your playing, the worse it will sound.)

    -and most importantly, practice often.

    Hope this helps!
