Great way to teach them the value of money and the importance of politics and policies and the effect they have on everyday life.

I must admit the 5 year old is have a few problems grasping the finer points of the Government's fiscal rules but by and large....

  1. I didn't think most companies cut individual staff wages.  I think the would be more likely to cut other costs, stop taking on new staff, and lay off staff.

So it might be more realistic to ask them to come up with ways to reduce the amount spent on them, by 10% say.  If they can't make enough cutbacks they would be put up for adoption (fired).  This way your child may suggest cutting their own pocket money or they might suggest some other cuts such as eating value crisps, wearing old clothes or using less electricity.

If your child is too young to have been introduced to percentages at school, perhaps you or an older sibling could help them with the calculations?

  3. Have you thought of giving him £23.50 a day and deducting costs?
