  1. been there but dint really have a great time,

    depends on what u want,

benidorm 5 mins down the road is more lively but still hated it there too! its more british than britain!

  2. It's not too bad although I don't know if i'd want a full holiday there,we had a day there when we were staying in Torrevieja which is South of Alicante.I'd recommend Torrevieja over it.Don't go near Benidorm though as that's a sh*thole!! There are lots of lovely towns along that coast- Nerja,Santa Pola,La Villa Joyosa(??).  Alicante has a great castle on the top of the hill overlooking the beach, nice beach etc..but wasn't much to do.Most people just stop off there rather than using it as their main resort.

  3. Alicante is a large city, with department stores and small shops in the old quarter, tree lined avenues and open spaces, there's a port and marina, and out of town shopping areas, a nice place, hard to drive through if you don't know where you're going. Its close to the main AP7 motorway and the notorious N332, regarded as the most dangerous road in Spain runs right through it

  4. I called in to Alicante as part of a med cruise - and to be honest didn't rate it much.

Not really an awful lot to see or do.  It was quite dirty and I had great difficulty finding anywhere nice to go for a drink or something to eat.

I would give it a miss and spend your money more wisely by going to another Spanish city.  Barcelona is good as well as Marbella.

  5. I lived there for about 8 years & had a great time, but it depends what you want from a holiday. It is the ideal place to find out about the Spanish culture & way of life as Alicante itself isn't really an English holiday destination, most people just go straight from the airport to their hotels in Benidorm. There are some beautiful sandy beaches between Alicante & Santa Pola & Alicante itself has a pretty marina & promenade lined with palm trees. The Santa Barbara castle is interesting to visit & if you wander through the old quarter it feels like you've stepped back in time 100 years. There are plenty of stylish shops, bars & restaurants to choose from. Buses run from the airport & from Alicante to the town of Santa Pola which is a popular tourist destination for Spanish people. Hiring a car for a few days would be well worth it as you can explore the surrounding area.

  6. hot in the summer ..cool in the winter

  7. I go there occasionally for shopping, although it's not great. It's quite a big city, there are good areas and bad, it's pretty busy in the summer and the beaches are packed, but in winter there's not alot of things for Brits to do. Are you sure you want to be in Alicante capital for a holiday?? It's definitely not my idea of a good time. There are alot of other nicer places that you could visit.
