  1. I just got back early this morning from Cozumel and it was lovely. The weather's a bit windy right now, more so than usual, but we were still able to get sun. I'd make sure you pack a lower SPF if you want to get a tan while you're out walking or sunning and bring a light jacket. Also, pack an umbrella and closed toed shoes in case it rains.

If you're old enough or are with someone old enough, I would rent a car and drive around the island. We stopped at a few beach clubs (places you pay a small admission to so that you can rest on their beach and play with their water equipment) and got out to walk a lot because the scenery was so beautiful. Stop at Coconut's at the turn and try to get a table right on the cliff for some delicious food and gorgeous views. Also, if that's your thing, the Mayan ruins are to the right as you make your way back into town and can be kinda cool to look at if you have the time and walking shoes.

If you want to find good restaurants, I'd tell you to walk off the beaten path. We found the best local restaurant on some side street between the cruise terminal and ferry dock where they treated us so well and where we had the best Mexican food.

I didn't stay at the Sol Melia but it was one of the hotels that we did look at when we were deciding. It looks nice enough but remember not to drink the water unless it comes from a desalinization plant or is purified and be careful about having food in your room since ants can sneak in and stuff themselves on your crumbs.

Last thing, if you aren't flying directly into Cozumel and decide to take a ferry, TAKE MOTION SICKNESS MEDICINE. I wish that somebody had told me that or that I at least had the foresight to grab a sick bag when they were handing them out because I was not prepared for that boat. I don't normally get motion/sea sickness but I was no match for the 15-20 foot waves.

    Have a great trip!
