  1. ArcoAire systems are cheap... I used to be in the business as a salesman, we sold them because they were cheap and we could make a nice profit on them and still undercut the other guys...

You might want a Trane, or a Carrier....Also if your system is old you should consider replacing the air handler as well...doing a partial replacement/change out you never get the benefit of the new units efficiency, and then you have to replace the other unit several years later and your always mismatched and never get the maximum benefit of your system....

  2. Arcoaire is a rather inexpensive brand and ahte quality is questionabale.

  3. All heat pumps are made from basically the same components. No manufacturer produces their own switches, relays, contactors, copper, etc. Brand doesn't matter.

Installation is key. An Arcoaire installed correctly will out perform a Carrier installed incorrectly every time.

Make sure your contractor sizes the unit correctly using a Manual J load calculation. Don't accept rule-of-dumb sizing (x tons per x square feet) Make sure you ductwork is sealed to prevent air leaks. Get a 10 year parts and labor warranty (any unit can be warrantied that long, not just certain brands) and you'll be fine.

  4. Arco is not a brand advertised, but supplied by wholesalers as an alternative to the major brands. The "salesman" who said they are cheap, obviously did not work on the equipment. They contain the same internal components, most available through your local wholesaler or parts supplier, and work equally or better than the advertised brand. I have been working on all brands for over 35 years, and my home unit is an Arcoaire.

  5. Never heard of Arco before. Are you sure that is what it is? That could be part of the model# or Serial#. Is it working o.k. If so don't bother changing it.
