Anyone ever hear of a double reception?

I just heard of a double reception. The first one at the actual wedding would be the dry reception and anyone interested in drinking later continue the reception at another location for those that want to drink.

  1. I've never heard of that one. It would make more sense to me to serve drinks earlier in the day and then cut them off so people could sober up before driving. Oh well, not my wedding. Intresting concept though. Have fun if you decide to go.

  2. No, and that makes no sense.

  3. It wasn't really a double reception as such, but at my friend's wedding they had an afternoon tea following the ceremony (which was held in a garden) with a few cakes and slices and they served tea, coffee and sparkling mineral water. Then they had a reception at a restaurant for dinner with beer and wine. I thought it was a really nice idea as they invited a couple of very old relatives (in their 90s) that could not make it to the night-time reception but still felt a part of the wedding with the afternoon tea. It was also a way of including the children as they weren't invited to the night-time reception.

  4. I've heard of triple receptions, so double receptions are not too far from that for me.
