I've been looking into buying a starter tack kit for my horse, as opposed to borrowing my parents whenever I want to ride. I would using it for light trail riding and possibly jumping, no shows whatsoever. I've been researching several brands and Silver Fox seems to pop-up a lot. It seems like a great price and the saddles appear to be well made. Unfortunately, the reviews for this brand are very few and either amazing or warning riders never to buy it. If you have purchased a Silver Fox brand saddle (or preferrably starter kit) can you please leave an honest review and the name of the site you bought it from? Your help is greatly appreciated!

And if you know any good brands for starter kits feel welcome to leave those names too!

And by starter kit I mean: all purpose saddle, stirrup leathers/irons, girth, reins, bridle and bit. with or wihout saddle pad.

  1. They are a cheap saddle and many times do not fit thehorse very well.

You would be better off looking for a good quality used saddle that could be reflocked or something.

The better name saddles fit much better and really are worth the money you spend on them. They can be repaired and they just fit better and put you in a better position to ride in.

If you have any local tack shops in your area ask them if they ever get anything in. Most do or many times will know someone who is looking to sell one.

  2. Any time you see a saddle "kit", worry.  Typically they are made in India and won't hold up under any use.

Your best bet would be to seek out somebody who's outgrown their saddle and tack and maybe you can buy all of their's in a packaged deal.

Check ebay.  If you know what size of saddle you and your horse will take, then you can look on ebay and try and find a European made saddle that's been gently used.  In some cases they will even throw in leathers, irons and a girth.  You can also do the same thing when looking for a bridle, breastcollar and pad.

    Best of luck.
