Just out of curiosity, what do they really do? So secretive, for good reasons of course!

It's nice of them to put that little note, that their official name is SIS but most people know them as MI6 -- which of course many people have heard of. I think their scope of intelligence gathering and activities is probably analogous to the US's CIA.
