I am looking to create a privacy fence for my yard. I am investigating the willow hybrid because it is fast growing. I just wanted to know your experiences with it. Do they require alot of work, espcially with trimming, ect. I also do not want to make my neigbor to the rear of my house upset with my landscape, however I live on a corner and cannot stand looking at the people walking past and my neighbors all of the time.

  1. Unless you wish to cut down & replace these hybrid willow trees every 10 years, I would not plant them. They grow very fast & die very fast, they are a short lifespan tree.

If you really want a natural fence, then try cedars or spruce trees. Both grow fairly quickly and last 50 years or better and are very low maintenance trees. The willows will provide a partial fence as the branches will not cover the area from ground to 4 or 5 feet high. Willows are known not to withstand very much wind before they start losing branches. Also re: cedar trees, you can shape them as you wish.
