  1. My grandparents didn't have runing water in the house until 1968. I know because I carried pails of drinking water alot.

A dug well is alot cheaper than a drilled well but still expensive. They sell small and full sized working pumps at Northern tool.com. for under a 100.00

  2. got the pump.. got it set up in the garden... wish I had a well!!!!.... mine's just decoration.... something to remind me of home.... plan to one day set it up with a pump and make it a fountain kinda dealie......

where I live, there's few private wells... I don' t think I could even get a permit for one... or to dig one...

here's a forum message board where they're discussing costs....

  3. When I was a youngster the hand pitcher pump was all we had.  It worked quite well.  You can still buy them from most pump supply dealers or the homesteader catalogs.  Keep in mind that most of those pumps will only lift water about twenty feet.  Even the more expensive "deep well" types can only pump from about fifty feet down.  If your water table is that close it probably wouldn't cost a great deal to sink a well.  The hardest part may be getting a drill machine to come for that small of a job.

  4. You do not need a mechanical well digger ..they can be done by hand with a drive point set up..here are the instructions
