Anyone ever set the railroad crossing bars down?

as a kid... for fun... without breaking them I mean... you know - the wire or bar trick...

    Yeppers... 1975-1980 or so we used to do that on the Southern Pacific tracks in Sunnyvale, California. Someone had left a set of jumper cables alongside the road, and we used them... and then stashed them in the bushes for later use over the years.

    We used to cross the tracks every day during the summer on the way to the pool.

    I never did

    but where I grew up the only RR crossing in town didnt have crossing protection other than crossbucks and those arent very interesting to mess with.

    I probably would have, if there was a way to get in trouble, I was there.

    (I wont even go into how illegal and totally not smart it is, as I kid I would never have thought of that anyway)
