  3. What a wonderful thing you are doing. Be careful though, there are those who will take advantage.  I lived in the Netherlands for ten years and just recently returned to California.  I was swept away with all of the people who wanted to come to visit me i.e. have a free hotel and guide. It ended up costing a lot of money, and no new Friends. We finally had to stop being tour guides and had only our dearest relatives and friends visit us.

Germany is wonderful, and we went there every weekend until the Euro, which made things too expensive. I miss the bratwurst and schnitzel so much and when we went back last year for a son's wedding in May we spent a week with them on their honeymoon in Germany. (My husband and stepchildren are Dutch).

Anyway, you live in one of my favorite parts of Germany. Have fun, and if you ever come to California, look me up. You are always welcome.

and thanks, thanks, thanks for serving our country and keeping us safe.  I'll pray for you.  Hugs, Barbara

Don't know in which region in Germany you live

So if you ever come to my region or want to travel there don't hesitate to contact me.

    I am from Bavaria

Edit: I live close to the city of Passau so if you want to visit this part of Bavaria as well let me know it s about 150 km from Nurenberg ,170 from Munich.

The city of Passau might be interesting to see it is a very old city (roman founded was one of the border posts of the Roman Empire).

For further information if you are interested feel free to cantact me trough my profile here.

@Dutchlady If you miss Bratwurst and Schnitzel so much check out if you find some German butchery.I lived in Sacramento California and found one though that is a long time ago. Here in Germany you hear quite often of people who have gone to the US to sell exactly these products.

If I can be of any help don't hesitate to contact me. :-)

  7. In 1985, I took a monthlong tour of Western Europe with my high school Spanish teacher. We only spent one night in Germany. We saw the cathedral in Cologne, Heidelberg, and stayed in the Black Forest in Triberg. It's a pretty country, and I wish we could've been there longer.

  8. Hi, I'm native German, born Bavarian and living there, but I've been to Berlin for around seven years.

There are two blogs I'd like to recommend, both written by Americans living in Germany. I like Andrew Hammel very much; start with this post:

"USA erklärt" ("The US explained") is a blog written in German by a professional translator from the US who speaks German better than I do.
