i wanna know if when applying to be a server, how many tests do you have to take? i know there is a personality test, but is there also a memorization of the menu exam? do they expect you to already know the exam?

Also, i was wondering if you have to share your tips with the hostess and the bussers? Thank You So Much.

  1. They won't expect you to know it before you're hired, but it would be a good idea to grab a to-go menu next time you go in. I don't remember a personality test, but there are your average menu tests and stuff like "you have __ minutes to greet a table". Different restaurants do different things as far as tip-out goes, but at ours you did not tip out the hostess, but you did the busser and the expo.

  2. I worked at Chili's both as a server and hostess. Neither times did I have to tip the busboys or hostesses or was I tipped.

    As far as the tests:

There were a total of three I think...one general and two menu ones...just divided up. Its incredibly easy and you just have to memorize abbreviations and what's on stuff. But don't sweat it...its more fun than anything. And if you have a table and forget something you can always, always refer to the menu for help. I don't remember a personality test, but that could be a new thing. Its funny, I still remember some of the abbreviations!!

    COBB (Cobb salad)

    CHIX (Chicken)

    BBQ (obvious)

    CHIX FAJ (Chicken Fajitas)

    VIN (Vinagrette)

    MOLT (Molten Chocolate dessert)

Have fun!! It was like working at summer camp both times I worked there.

  3. I am a server and trainer at chili's and there is no personality test.  You do get 2 interviews the initial one when you fill out your application and you get a second with the General Manager if approved through the first manager.  When you get hired you come in for an orientation with a manager they generally show a couple of videos and show you around the restaurant.  As far your training goes you get 5 days with a trainer and a workbook for each day in which you are supposed to fill out before your trainer comes in.  This workbook is basically your study guide for the tests with menu items and othr information you need to know. I do suggest taking a menu home. The hardest thing will be finding everyhting in the computer system and using it.

As far as tipping goes you tip out your busser, and Q.A.

Sometimes your bartender depending on if they made alot of drinks for on your shift.

    Good Luck
