I am interested in finding someone that has lived there or has traveled there recently--just to talk about the area. My family is from Idstein, and I was born in Wiesbaden.

  1. hmm,

its a lot there to see. depends what you are after.

Talking about Idstein:It has a beautifully preserved old town with a Nassau Dynasty Rokoko style residence.

The Taunus Hills: Good for walking (depends what you have seen before, so if you went on a trek through the rockies or alps ,this cant compete)

for good views over Frankfurt and beyond get on the tower of the Feldberg on a clear day,or try the Atzelberg tower( a wooden structure)

Also nice the old town of Kronberg, or Koenigstein both with castles ( the first one was a former Bishops residence)

For the local food and drink culture: Gasthaus Rudolph ( www.gasthaus-rudolph.de)

The remains of a roman fort have been reconstructed near Bad Homburg and are now called Saalburg Roemerkastell ( www.saalburgmuseum.de)

Thats just a little bit in terms of history, sightseeing.

If you need more or different information let me know.

    Cheers Martin

  2. I know this area but what is your question.

  3. I lived in Wiesbaden for about 3 years and I live in Heidelberg now.  I return to Wiesbaden often because I have a lot of friends there.  Wiesbaden's best sights probably include the Casino and the Beibrich Palace.  Both are lovely.  I would suggest taking sometime to walk through the pedestrian area of the city and look at the marktplatz and see the beautiful architechture of the city and the hotspring fountains by the kransplatz.  If you are in the area for a while I would also check out Mainz. Yes, it is a rival city of Wiesbaden but it is a very beautiful place and just across the river.

  4. I lived in Wiesbaden for over three years, until just a few months ago; I never visited Idstein itself, but many of the other towns and places in that area.  It's a very pretty part of the country, and ideally suited for going and seeing many interesting things--both in that area itself as well as in neighboring regions.  Feel free to shoot an email my way if you'd like to know something more specific.

  5. Look at the Wiesbaden home page, if you choose the map and then "Luftbilder" you will be able to walk around in the town.

if you chose the virtual tour, you can see many nice places.
