Question:

Anyone feeling sorry for Laura Robson, on account of how the British press will treat her come next Wimbledon?

I can see her having to sharpen up her prose, with certain sections of the press wanting to ´sex´ her up and, for their readers, turn her into a circus act - which may, I fear (unless her professionalism shines through) take her mind away from what she does best. The press just can´t help themselves.

  1. I agree, the press in this country stink, they're absolutely drooling over themselves as she's a pretty girl. The number of pics of her even going to the winners ball was incredible and I can't help feeling that if she was more of a "plain Jane" she wouldn't have featured so much.

  2. She's 14 and she appears in tennis press for winning a junior grand slam more than most pros. That's absurd. They will only make an uncontrollable nervous Andy Murray out of her.

How about the boys' wimbledon finalist.Nodody said anything about him and she has not done more than he did.

  3. Over the next 15 years she'll earn loads of money playing tennis.

She doesn't need anyone to feel sorry for her, she's got a great life.

I agree that the British press are horrible though.  Thing is, if enough people stopped buying newspapers they'd soon change their ways.  But we don't, we keep buying them.  So we're partly to blame.

  4. Yeah I think she will have too much pressure put on her next year, especially if she gets a wild card into the ladies' event.  Hope she can just focus on the tennis and does well next year!  =))

  5. I feel really sorry for her!! All she wanted originally was to play tennis and now that she won the juniors it isn't just tennis any more. Her managers will probably exploit her and get her to do loads of press conferences. When she gets to the senior Wimbledon there will be so much pressure on her to win even though she may not be that good if she can't concentrate on her game thanks to the press.
