I have a question about school in Australia. Is your "summer" break actually during your winter? And is your Christmas warm?

  1. In Australia we dont have a 'Summer' break persay. Our school year begins on the 27th-31st on January and ends a week before christmas. So we get around 6 weeks off over our summer. We also get 2 weeks off in April (usually over easter, except when easter comes early), 2 weeks off in July and 2 weeks off in October.

Our christmas is in our first month of summer, many years its warm and comfortable but we have had some boiling hot Christmas days also.

We celebrate christmas with bbqs and seafood. Heading down the beach, backyard cricket, parties around the pool, etc.. A summer christmas is the best.

  2. School holidays or break as you call them, is during the Christmas and New Year celebrations. So it is our Summer for both.

Remember that Summer in the Northern Hemisphere starts from June to July and Summer in  the Southern Hemisphere starts December to February

School Holidays are broken up into terms and are diffrent in each state of Australia but still quite close in dates.

So Yes, Our Christmas is quite warm.

    Cheers

  3. summer break is in summer

and yes its very warm at Christmas

  4. Yes your right, Christmas in Australia is hot so Santa leaves his red suit and black boots in the US and comes to Australia in his budgie snugglers and thongs.

  5. Our "summer break" is known as "The Christmas school holidays" and goes from the end of November or early December until late January or early February.

The dates depend on what school year you're in and what state and school you attend.

Most private schools have longer holidays (vacation time) because they have boarders who live at the school and they may have long distances to travel home, some students have days of travel both within Australia and overseas.

Yes, Christmas time is our summertime, so yes it is hot here at Christmas time. Great for bbqs, beaches and by the pool etc. I really don't think I'd enjoy a cold and wintry Christmas.

It just wouldn't seem right somehow.

At the moment we're in autumn (fall) heading towards winter.
