  1. lol, i was born in frankfurt!! but i came to america when i was 7, take a taxi, to my parents and i that was the fastest method to get to the airport, but we drove in a taxi during the night so there was less traffic,(we mainly lived in gelnhausen) so it was a real small neighborhood. as for number 2, ihave no clue again i was 7 at the time. just try to learn some of the important basics, such as the ones mentioned in the first reply that you got. dont really be too open, Germans are pretty reserved, lol. Good luck! say hello to deutschland for me!

  2. > 1. How do i reach Frankfurt RAilay station from the airport ( walkable , taxi .. avg fare.. etc

The long-distance station is at Frankfurt Airport, terminal 1. See http://www.airportcity-frankfurt.com/cms... for a map of the airport.

    > 2. I need to take a train from Frankfurt to Nurnberg ( avg cost , luggage allowed .. )

The timetables for trains from Frankfurt Airport to Nuremberg are available here: http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.e... , just enter the date and time you'd like to depart (you may change the destination to a street address, too, in order to get local public transport timetables in Nuremberg).

There's a direct connection every hour with a high speed ICE train, standard fare is 49 €, savings fare starts at 29 €. Only a limited number of tickets are availabe as savings fare, plus such a savings ticket is valid only on the train you buy it for (unlike a standard ticket, which is valid for any train on that route).

I'd say the 20 € you save aren't worth it, just go with the standard ticket.

You can buy your ticket either online, pay by credit card and print it at home (most likely more convenient and you'll surely get a window seat) or use one of the vending machines at the airport (in English, too).

About the luggage: Unless you take like six giant suitcases plus a dishwasher with you there's no limit on German trains.

    > 3..Few words of caution to a newcommner at germany

No need to worry. Most Germans appreciate it a lot if you start a conversation in German, though, and be it just "gooden tak" (a formal "Hi"), "entshooldigoong, sprecken sie anglish?" ("Excuse me, do you speak English?"), "danke" ("Thanks"), "ya" ("Yes") and "nine" ("No") (note: not German spelling but pronounciation spelling).

  3. From Some Bozo: "I'd say the 20 € you save aren't worth it, just go with the standard ticket."

The difference between the savings fare and the normal ticket, is that with the savings fare, you are limited to traveling on a specific train, at a specific time.  With a normal ticket, if you arrive early, you can get on an earlier train.  If you're late, you can get on a later train.  I've found that the special fares can be as much as 50 euro less, and are worth purchasing.  If you think you are going to be going to Germany a lot, you can buy discount cards that will allow you to get 25% or 50% off of any ticket.

Another Bahn tip: if there is a specific public transportation stop you need in Nuernberg/Nuremburg, then set that as your final address as part of your train ticket.  That extra bus/subway/whatever ride will actually be free if you set it as your Bahn.de end address, whereas if you get off the train and on to other public transportation, you will have to pay extra for it.

Word of warning for the main Frankfurt train station (not the one in the airport): as soon as you step outside, you are in a red light district.  Sadly, there aren't any cheap food choices there, either.

Also, there are few things that make Germans more upset than simply speaking English to them.  Ask first, in German, if they can speak English, before proceeding.

To a certain extent, public transportation is on the honor system.  Make sure you validate your public transportation tickets.  Plainclothes officers will get on the transport and check everyone's tickets after the doors are closed.  If you haven't validated your ticket or haven't paid, then you have an automatic 40 euro ticket.  If you don't have the cash on you, then they will take you to an ATM.

  4. Himar is correct.

They have had a terminal now at Frankfurt for several years now and you can take the train directly from the airport now versus having to take a shuttle train or bus or taxi to the Main Hauptbahnhof. This makes this much easier than before!!

I have done both and much prefer the station at the airport much better!

As for caution, just be friendly and try to do your best to learn their language even if it is just a few words. It does really make a difference when you try to them!!

Most of all just have fun!

  5. Frankfurt Airport has a Railstation too first of all so check if you can't get a connection from the airportstation I ll add a link of german railway.

The average Taxifare from Airport to main Trainstation is around 20 Euros  it is not walking distance Taxi will need 20 min to half hour depending on the time and the traffic.

If you don't have much luggage you can use the Sbahn from Airport to Main Train Station too.

  6. I was in Frankfurt over 24 years. The train station at the Frankfurt Airport is under need like subway. So follow the signs or ask the information center at the Terminal. From Frankfurt to Nuremberg the price for the train just check on www.bahn.de. You can see there the prices and put which day you want to travel, they show the times and how long you will be sitting in the train. Taking Luggage is no problem in the train.

So in Germany most people speaking English and they are helpful, if you ask somebody something.

Frankfurt is nice city also Nuremberg is nice too.

    Have fun in Germany.
