  1. The previous information is all accurate.  I have tried it all, and find that it is pricey at the suggested venues.  Personally, I think every tourist to Sydney needs to go directly to Town Hall Station, and eat at one of the kiosks on the lower level.  The fast food is fresh and tastey, and not nearly as pricey.  After that you need to walk the concourse over to the QVM and enjoy the architecture and the retail therapy.  This should keep you busy for hours!  If you are still hungary after the stand up lunch, it is just a short trip on the train, and you are at Circular Quay.  Get off there, and go to Doyles (reservations recommended)!  Enjoy!

  2. Sydney is famous for having great food -not just one type ...but all types. But if I had to choose one style it would have to be seafood - Sydney rock oysters,Balmain bugs and school prawns ..Yum !.There are tons of restaurants but you could try Doyles of Watson Bay -touristy,or great restaurants like Pier in Rose Bay,Fish Face,Catalinas or even better buying the seafood fresh from the fish markets and eating it in the Botanical gardens overlooking the harbour and opera house.Hope this helps

  3. You need to go to Luna Park (theme park) for some fun which is in the city.

But a must is the Blue Mountains which is about 50kms from Sydney City. Look up a place called Katoomba.

There is also Cronulla Beach (South of city) and Manly Beach (North of City)

There is a massive variety of foods in Sydney, there is a restaurant from every country. But the most famous food for Australia is the humble meat pie. You can find them in any cafe or take-away shop.

  4. i am almost mad at the answers i just read. dont get me wrong the suggestions listed provide a nice meal, some with a picturesque setting but they did not answer the question asked.

there is one 'must eat' 'must visit' 'must try' for every tourist. i am from sydney and have been there hundreds of times. my wife is from california, she has been to sydney twice and eaten there several times. it not only serves the food icon of australia (the great meat pie) , but it serves it with every frill and trimming a great tourist attraction needs. the countless photos of celebrities on the walls says it all

I am talking of the world famous 'Harry's Cafe de Wheels' in Wooloomooloo, Sydney. First timers have to order a 'tiger' - meat pie with mashed peas mashed potatoes and gravy.

For a tourist to visit Sydney and not eat here would be sacrilege tantamount to visiting new york and not trying a slice of pie, visiting thailand and not getting a pad thai, going to ireland and not visiting the guinness factory for an ice cold pot, visiting amsterdam and not.. well you know what im saying

sorry if i offended anyone but this is a lock, no question

  5. Seafood - that pretty much sums it up.   There are lots of good seafood places that are famous in sydney.   Try some of these:

    Essential tourist places would be:

    Darling Harbour

    Bondi Beach

    Harbour Cruise

    Centerpoint Tower

    QVB (Queen Victoria Building)
