Anyone from holland who can tell me roughly how far from amsterdam airport to Friesland?

Friesland is about 85 - 95 miles from Amsterdam Airport (schiphol).

By car the problem is getting around Amsterdam, above Purmerend you should not have traffic jams.

By train it is 2 hours, 23 minutes (1 or 2 changes) 27 euro 80 a single trip. (leaves .14 and .54)

When I lived in Holland I used to make  this trip several times as I lived in A'dam and my parents in Friesland.

I usually took the train, easy realxing trip.

It took me almost 3 hours, as you have to make a change at the amersfoort station, this train will leave from platform one.

There is also an option to take the train to amsterdam central station and change their to a straight shot train to Leeuwarden, but it will stop both at all the smaller station which will make your trip abot 20 minutes longer, but I calculated that into the 3 hours.

If you want to take a rental car take in account that the avarage price for a gallon of regular gas in the Netherlands is at $11, so I belive a train would be cheaper.

I know of the championships, and have watched the sport on Dutch TV..  I don't know where they are held, and Friesland is a province, not a town/city.  Here are a few mileages, which may give you some idea.
