I'm thinking of getting my master's degree in Japan. Either in economics, finance, or an MBA. Anyone have experience with this they can tell me about? Or know how hard it is to get into good university in Japan being a foreigner?

  1. I got my masters in Japan and I have many friends who got a degree or are into master course in japan. And what I can tell is that what happens with you during this course and will you graduate or not depends 80% on the professor. He is your god during these two years. Therefore, if you want to enter master course in a Japanese university, you'd better find a professor and begin correspondence ASAP.Also, it is advisable to check the title of the degree they are giving at the end. It might not be a standard one. Another advise would be to find a professor with good English, and to check if they allow you to write your thesis in English. In some places thay do, in some they don't.A friend of mine couldn't graduate in time, because his professor couldn't read his thesis.

It is not hard to get into any good university, if you have the support of a proffesor inside, who is willing to be your adviser. The difficult part is to convince the professor to accept you. I suggest you look for Japanese professors who have publications in English on the topic you are interested in , then contact these professors with short explanation about your intention to do a research in the topic they are working on.
