Anyone get a subrogation letter before?

I just received a letter in the mail from Liberty Mutual, saying that according to their investigation I may have contributed to an automobile loss involving their insured! I was NOT involved in any automobile accident that I can recall of. Certainly, if I were involved in an accident I would know about it! What is this?! How do I fight this?

  1. I would inform them they have the wrong person. Tell them you've never lent out your car to any other person & you yourself were not in any auto accident. The burden of proof is on them.

  2. It is possibly a clerical error. Simply state that you have not been involved in the auto accident that they are referring to and let it go at that. If they require anything further from you, I guarantee you will hear from them again.

  3. I would give them a call and tell them exactly what you just told us.

  4. Subrogation means they have paid their insured for a loss, and are seeking repayment from the responsible third party. Basically they are implying YOU were responsible for the loss and should pay them.

If you were never involved then you need to find out more details from them.

  5. Give them a call and find out more information.

Did you lend your car out to someone? They could have been involved in an incident.

You need to find out more info - when? where? what do they say happened? were the police called? is there a police report -can they send you a copy?

If Liberty Mutual continues to push it - call your insurance company and report the claim to them. They will do their own investigation. If they come to a different conclusion than Liberty Mutual - they will defend you.
