Is boxing a good skill to help in a bar fight.

I know bar fights dont have rules etc and they are not going to be a ref in the fight.

But would it help.

I dont get in many bar fights but have boxed for a number of years.

I always wonder if it would help. I can imagine that is someone is throwing hooks I would be able to move but I dont know.

Also is it possible to get in a good body shot, that must work is someone is all full of booze.

  1. you will always have an advantage if you are a trained fighter

but street or bar brawling is a differant game

  2. dont box and fight outside the ring thats going to be automatic arrest. just fight

  3. it depends.  many great boxers don't have that much power.  Tapping a guy on the face a few dozen times doesn't do anything when he tackles you into a table.  In a bar fight, more than even most other fights, you're likely to have other people involved and you want to end it quickly.  A punch isn't the most effective way to do this.  And a punch certainly doesn't help much when the guy then pulls a pistol and shoots you.  It isn't going to hurt you, but on the whole, hockey seems more useful.  A very drunk person can be hard to hurt in such a way that they'll stop.....but a very drunk person with their shirt over their head ceases to be quite as menacing

  4. I agree with blowbybl, trained fighters should only fight other trained fighters and for self-defensive purposes.

  5. been in too many to count ..... it really does help because most people in bar fights are wild and out of control.... boxing helps you stay in control of yourself, at least in my case, and gives you a sense of confidence against drunken Pansies....If you get sucker punched or hit with an object, like a playstation 2 in my case, there is little you can do but go into a Mexican Warriors role and see whos the toughest but the person who connects first usually wins.... the other thing about bar fights is that even if its a one on one fight as soon as you start winning or get taken to the floor by the other guy or girl, most of his friends will jump in and try and get a suckerpunch or finishing blow so they can put it on YOUtube...and the last thing you want is to be on Youtube getting kicked in the head....KNowing when to walk away  is the best thing to do in most bar fights because regardless of who wins, the both of you are going to jail..... But Boxing does help because most people have no idea how to throw a punch and will Usually throw a big right hand if right handed and vise versa if left handed, so all you got to do is be ready then counter.... and Body Blows are always good but only if the guy is covering up his face alot and the body work will try and get him to lower his arms a little for a nice face shot...but remember no one is scoring the fight so Face punches are still the best bet to hurt the other guy or put him down .... i have been in 2 bar fights this year alone and i dont remember one body shot being thrown by me or the other guys so is really just a brawl .... when you box there is usually 3 or 4 three minutes rounds, so you never just waste punches and you take a focused approach to beating the guy... but in a bar fight is usually about 1 or 2 minutes long but they seem to last forever.... And in a bar fight both guys will throw about 20 maybe 30 punches a piece but only 5 or 10 punches will actually hit the other guy flush so a body shot seems like a waste of time, at least in my experience, but everyone is different....

  6. rule of thumb swing first, as long as your not the *** starting the fight any way. if bar fights are a common thing where you go you might want to find a nicer bar. but yes it does. but if your kicked in the *** even the best fighters in the world can get rocked real easy cause there reaction time and judgment is off.

  7. I used to when younger, yes being a ex boxer does help but when push comes to shove anything goes in a street fight!you rely on instincts mainly.

  8. If you are a trained fighter you should not fight people who don,t have the same back ground it,s not fair. Yes it can help
