Anyone getting annoying phone calls from area code 647?

Question

Area code 647 is Toronto, Ontario.... and someone there has been calling my number (in the USA) over and over again, and hanging up when my answering machine answers. They called about 10 times today while I wasn't home.

Anyone know if they are telemarketers? I certainly don't want to waste money on an international call to find out they sell Canadian lottos or some other scams like that.

yes the 647 is definitely a telemarketing carrier, the only way to stop them is the next time they call just advise them to put you are there do not call list, they have 3 days to comply and it must remain there for 3-5 years. if they continue after 3 days or again before 3 years there is a number to call and complain the fines are hefty for calling people on there do not call lists, like 50K for each offense.

I was getting those. It was a collections agency known as Candian Bonded Credits Ltd. They were hired by some business on a contract basis to collect debts that people owe.  CBCL (a division of IRMC (IntelliRisk Management Corporation)) was looking for somebody that USED to live at this number, they weren't looking for me. They called a few times a day using an autodialler machine.

It drove me bonkers.

I contacted IRMC and spoke to a gentleman there to ask them to stop calling. I also called the CRTC and Phonebusters to inform them of the situation and to see if they could help me stop the calls. Try contacting either the CRTC or PHONEBUSTERS (both are Canadian-run).

It seems to have worked because I haven't had an annoying call from them in nearly a week!

Uh, I never get calls from Toronto. It's just some dude playing with his phone.
