Anyone gone to veracruz or just mexico?

going to mexico by myself for the first time to an uknown country.. im excited but anything i need look out for?

All kinda things. Mosquitos for sure. The sun here does not play - bring sunscreen.

Most of all is the people spotting you as a gringo with cash. Be smart and use your instinct as its your best weapon. They are professionall con men. Taxis will rob you blind. 30 minute ride about 50 pesos. Agree to the price before opening the door. Ask others what a fair price is.

Want to buy from a street vendor - start at half price and be prepared to walk. If you start to walk away you generally will hear " OK gringo - 45 pesos ! sold ". Im telling you I've travelled the world and these people are profesional hagglers - stand your grnd. and be prepared to walk.

Ignore any beach peddelers - no matter how sad they look or ragged clothes - chances are they have a cell phone in thier pocket and nice clothes at home.

Eat food away from the main touristy areas - cheaper and authentic !

Drink sodas, beer , or bottled water. Dont be scared of the water but your system is not used to it and why risk it.

Get away from the tourist areas and experience the real Mexico! The tourist areas are just eye wash for you and do not represent the real Mexico.

Be prepared to see poverty , stray dirty dogs , fires and smoke as they burn everything ( trash , leaves , debris ), You will see parents spending time with thier children, trash in the streets , questionable food handling practices , questionable electrical connections, insane driving .

Its a different experience when you travel international and is educational and fun. Keep your mind and eyes open. Embrace thier culture and have fun !
