  1. Nutrient deficiency diseases occur when there is an absence of nutrients which are essential for growth and health.

    Dietary Reference Values (DRVs), formerly referred to as Population Reference Intakes, are used for planning and assessing adequate nutrient intakes. DRVs are the complete set of nutrient recommendations and reference values, such as the average requirement, adequate intake level and the lower threshold intake.


  2. Nutrient deficiencies describe someone whose diet is lacking in the essential nutrients for good health, such as vitamins, minerals and protein.  

    Dietary reference values refer to the minimum daily requirements the body needs for maximum nutrition.  These are generally listed on product packaging and on bottles containing food supplements and vitamins.
