I know we love to hate them, but could we do without them? I must admit I have a soft spot for Collingwood - it's a swamp between Canberra and Goulbourn.

In the semi final against West Coast last year I even found myself supporting them - although picking between West Coast and Collingwood is a bit like picking which end of the noose you would like to get hung by.

My best story was in 2002 when my club took my sons U/14 team to Melbourne for a footy weekend. My first trip to the MCG - Collingwood vs Geelong in front of 65,000 people. The Collingwood players ran out onto the field and kicked footies into the crowd.

My son jumps out of his seat and catches one - to my horror he takes one look at the Collingwood football and takes aim at the player who kicked it to him. I took it off him before he could throw it to sounds of "Why did you do that" and :Who would want a Collingwood football" from him and his friends.

  1. In the book the magpies for the centenary of the club Jack Dyer told how Jock McHale coach of the premiership sides of 27 28 29 30 kept one of Richmonds star players in the boiler room of CUB on the morning of the 1930 grand final every one at Richmond was said to be really annoyed over that

  2. Nope but urs is pretty funny i no i wouldnt want one of there balls. Shoulda thrown it at Joffa.

  3. Good to see you are showing a moment of weakness in supporting the Pies.

As for the best Collingwood story, try 1990 GF.  I am still laughing about that one (especially at Essendon supporter's expense).

    Go Pies!!

  4. Mark that story is hilarious!!

My fondest memory is of the 1990 GF since my (ex-)boyfriend at the time was an Essendon supporter and it brings me much joy to this day watching the pain on his face as I celebrated a victory over his team.

Many of the Collingwood greats played that year, and I am so honoured to be able to witness them winning a premiership.

  5. No. I don't have a funny true story about Collingwood.

I thought all the stories about that club were mostly lies!

  6. There are so many funny stories about Collingwood I don't know where to start!

But No. 1 would have to be when they drew the grand final against Carlton & then lost the replay.......How funny was that?

Also all those finals they lost and were dubbed the "Colliwobbles" by a club legend, in Lou Richards.......How funny was that?

The fact that they have only won one grand final in the past 50 odd years......How funny is that?

But how funny was it watching Micky Malthouse blubbering his eyes out when they lost their most recent grand final......How funny was that?

  7. I have a funny (?) story about Collingwood. Kevin Worthington & Stan Magro (drinking & horseracing mates of mine) both tell a story of when they were playing in one of the VFL GFs, I'm sure it was Carlton but I can't remember the player's name. When the two teams were lined up for the national anthem one of the Carlton players continually exposed his p***s to the C'wood team!

Cameras were limited & this C'ton player would wait until it was not on him & flash the C'wood team. Kevin & Stan say the C'wood players were really cracking up. They were both there with C'wood between 1977 & 82 & both played 90 odd games before coming back to WA.

I know the story isn't complete without the Carlton players name so I'll have to ask again who it was.

I've been away over the festive break & have visited some of my horses - & bought into another one - a 2yo to race in Perth......I knew you all wanted to know that!!

  8. i heard this story that said Collingwood have only won -1 grand final in more than 50 years and it turned out to be true-jeez i laughed.

    p.s couldn't resist-Christmas is over :)

  9. The most funny story i Know is when stan magro knocked out 7 of jezzas  (from the blues) teeth out and got nothing for a fair bump

pS imawanna let us no the name of ya nag so i can save my money

  10. I think a funny true story about Collingwood is that it was Lou Richards who dubbed them the Colliwobbles for going to water when the pressure went on in big games.

  11. This Christmas I bought my niece's and nephews Hawthorn supporter gear as gifts in an attempt to make them Hawthorn supporters

I gave my 4 year old nephew a stuffed hawk carrying a footy after he opened it he was disappointed and said he hated magpies

I told him it wasn't a magpie, it was a hawk, he was happy then and gave it a hug

"Buddy" the hawk now sits on his bookshelf and my devious attempt at recruiting another   Hawthorn supporter may actually work
