  1. you need to bend your legs.

and wherever you're shoulders are pointed, that's where the ball is going to go. so angle you're shoulders toward you're target.

    use a basketball hoop.

set the ball into the hoop.

  2. Well as a setter, I have to tell you this is one of the hardest positions in sports.

    You have 2 main jobs.

Firstly to get to that second ball almost every time, and secondly put up a hittable ball for your hitters..

You should practise on your mechanics.

For example practice your footwork - sets should come off of the right foot after a hopping motion.

And also make sure you're recieving the ball correctly.

Another thing is TOUCHES. As many as you can. Keep practicing against the wall, try to hit the same brick in the wall over and over..

It would be good to get together with a hitter, and have them give you feedback after each set so that way you will develop your own system.

    Good Luck!=]

  3. bend your knees slightly.

also, you could try setting it to a certain place, such as a basketball hoop. it may sound stupid, but it works. i've become more accurate with it.

also, try not to tense up if that's what you're doing. relax some.

    hope i helped :)

  4. the reason your sets are going crooked is because your hands are contacting the ball at different times. make sure that all ten fingers hit the ball at the same time. it's hard i know. make sure that you take a left right step right before you contact the ball. then bend your knees and elbows and push the ball to where it needs to go.

for a fun drill try this: (it's one of my favorites!)

be on flat land where you have quite a bunch of space.

grab your ball and get into an open space. set the ball to about where a middle would be from your position. let it hit the ground then run under it and set a middle (from where you are standing) or an outside (from where you are standing. )just keep doing that over and over again. you'll get the hang of it after a few.

  5. hey! i've been a setter for every volleyball team i've been on. i will give you some things to do!

1)keep practicing with the wall, first of all.

2)while your setting the ball, you have to try to lay down and get back up WHILE setting the ball. its quite hard, but it the key is to not set the ball so high.

    3) bump the ball, then set the ball..and keep going!

    some exercises:

    lunges, squats, jogging, running...etc.

main thing, just bend your knees and push the ball up

because thats where every thing comes from!

  6. Try to be as consistent with your sets as possible, no matter where you are on the court you don't want to throw off your hitters timing.

  7. The basic point of setting is that most of the power comes from your legs, so using them is crucial.  The legs prvide about 90% of the energy, and the arms provide about 10%. When you set, be wary of your footwork, and make sure you sure square-up to where you are setting.  Never face the passer when getting ready to set.  You may turn your head to see who's passing and where the pass is going, but make sure your hips and shoulders are lined up straight down the net to where you're setting.

One of the best things you can use to help out your setting, it to find an experienced hitter to practice with, who knows some stuff about setting.  You need to set them the basic hits such as 4s, 5s, 1s, 2s, and maybe some back row hits.  That should help your placement ask the hitter to give you tips when you think you need help with something.  If you have a basketball in your house somewhere, the best way to perfect the ball coming out straight and with no spin is to lay down on your bed and set the basketball until it comes out of your hands perfectly straight and with no spin.  They make specializd setter training balls, but they're almost $40 while basketballs are usually readily available.  An effective drill to perfect height when you have no hitters or coaching available is to make some targets at 8' or higher (for guys like me, it would be 8'8", 8' net plus the 8" ball height, but for girls it would be 7'4" plus the 8"), and try to hit them every time.

One you think you have a decent set, just go play some games somewhere and test out your skills.  ask the other players what was wrong with any sets you think looked bad, and listen to their advice if they're more experienced than you.

As for exercises, anything that works on your leg strength, such as squats, and anything that works on speed and agility, such as some types of plyometrics or a good vertical jump program (may I suggest The Vertical Project, very effective).  Also, in addition to becoming more agile and quick from a vertical jump program, you're going to need to block and occasionally hit if the team you end up with plays with one setter, as most teams do.  Although training your setting is very important, setters have to play defense, block, and occasionally hit, so you need training in all areas.  Going to a clinic or camp could definitely help you.  That's all I can say.

    Oh, right.  Good luck!

  8. 90% of ur sets come from ur legs and hands , 10% from your arms, so if u got good footwork nad handwork, ull be a good setter, make sure u square up
