Hi i have pcos and partner has poor sperm mobility.

Im taking metformin and my partner is now taking a zinc supplement. My DR plans iui for us.

.I would like to know how the treatment usually works

with hospital appointments scans etc.

Does treatment require me to be out of work much.

Also did this treatment work for you?

Thanks for any info.

  1. Wow, Tina's said it all!

    Great link too.

  2. An IUI is not so bad.  They will probably schedule you for bloodwork and ultrasounds leading up to the IUI - they will be monitoring your hormones for an LH surge (helps to predict when you will ovulate) and ultrasounds to monitor your follicle growth.  You did not say whether it will be a medicated cycle or not . . . if you are doing fertility medications they may make adjustments as you go along.  I did not miss any work for monitoring as they had appointments available as early as 7AM so I was able to go before work.

The actual IUI involves your partner going to the fertility clinic before you to make his contribution.  They will do a sperm wash and prepare the sample for you.  You will go in later - it is sort of like a pap smear.  They have you lay back, use a catheter to go through the cervix and slowly inject the s***n sample.  It is uncomfortable but not painful.  They will probably have you lay down for 15 - 30 minutes and then you can go about your day - back to work if you need to.  You may experience a bit of spotting and cramping . . . but that's about it for discomfort.  You can take tylenol.

Here is a great link for you:

We tried IUI 6 times - 3 were with Clomid and an Ovidrel trigger shot, 3 were with injectible fertility meds and the trigger shot.  I had one chemical pregnancy but that was it.  We opted to move onto IVF - I am now 35w 5d pregnant with twins from IVF.

    Good luck and baby dust!
