  1. yes and no.

i work as a salesman in the motor trade and i have had many problems with manufacturer built in sat navs.

However i know people who use nav-man and not had any problems.

I personally use the Tom Tom and swear by it a wonderful piece of technology and never let me down.

P.S. still have a clean licence thanks to my wee pal....

  2. Yeah, they are a bit of a distraction until you learn to use them very proficiently.  Sometimes they take you around in circles as well.

  3. yeh me lol but only because i didnt get the guys in halfords to show me how to work it, i tried to work it myself which took some time lol ask them for help,  they are worth it! gd luck :P

  4. Kinda depends on how much area your sat nav system covers. Here in Portugal, my sister once had a Michelin/HP PDA w/ GPS and the software didn't even knew where her house was, because it simply didn't appear there. Plus, sometimes the GPS delays our location and it shows as if we were 500 meters away from the current one. Then she bought a TomTom ONE. So far, it never gave any signs of getting lost, and has got nearly 98% of all roads here (small country, and loss of signal only happens indoors, because outdoors it never failed I think.

If you are going to pick a sat nav,  then pick a good one. Do some researches on the various brands and try to find out the area they cover before buying one.

  5. they are o k as long as you know where your going...    no  really

  6. l had a bad experience when l borrowed my friends pda with sat nav installed l used it one week in London with no problems , the week after l had to go back to London so l asked him if l could use it again, he let me use it so l didn't bother to study the route, why should l as the unit was fine the week before, when l got up the east end on commercial road the unit flashed up speed camera warning 800metres, and then counted down to zero, then another speed camera warning 800metres again, counted to zero again, then another, then another, all this time the unit had stopped giving me directions because my friend had increased the speed camera settings in the unit, l was driving a mini bus taking a party to a hotel by Hyde park, l ended stopping a taxi and paying nearly 20 pounds because l had to follow him to the hotel, l felt a right t**t and let my mate have it once l got back, l brought my own unit after that and have had no worries since. remember if you get a unit it is for directions and if you want a speed camera warning system buy a separate system or have the sat nav sensitivity on minimum.
