  1. My oldest girl was born at 23 weeks (17 weeks early), she spent most of her life in Wellingtons Neonatal unit (intensive care for babies), that was 7 weeks in Wellington and 8 weeks Nelson Hospitals.

She came home on oxygen and she was on that for another 2 months.

But now, she is 5 years old and doing well at school, she was a bit slow to start with but she is catching up with the other 5 year olds, she is my miracule baby

  2. My father in law's co-worker did. She had her baby at 26 weeks. The baby was in the hospital for a couple of months but now is home and happy and healthy! Her due date was around the same as mine. I'm currently 38 weeks.

  3. I had my son at 25 weeks.  Yes, that's correct, 25 weeks! He weighed only 1 lb. 14 oz when he was born and had the nerve to be breeched, so I had a C-section.  He was in the hospital 3 months and on the tubes.  He had a surgery to his lung area, and eye laser surgery.  He was so tiny.  By the time I brought  him home he weighed 4 lb 11 oz.  I am happy to say, today he is 11 years old, and doing just great.  No unusual problems whatsoever, except he tries to back talk me from time to time...LOL!  If a baby born at 25 weeks can live and grow to be strong and healthy, so can one born at 29 or 30 weeks.  Good luck!

  4. I had my third child May 25, 2007 at 28 1-2 weeks, she had to be held in the N.I.C.U.  ( Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)  for 2 1-2 weeks after she was born, and was considered premature, but has grown to be a healthy baby, just a tad bit smaller than alot of other babies born at due date.  It depends on your particular situation though.  Are you pregnant?  If you are, hope the baby is in great health.

    Hope this helps.

  5. I have not, but a good friend of mine had her baby at 36 weeks.  She described her experience like this: you know how the first month is hard because the baby has to eat every two hours, even at night?  So there's terrible sleep deprivation.  Well, having a baby one month premature is like going through that first month two times (two months instead of one).  So it's tough.  Also, I believe that premature babies have a harder time learning to nurse, because the nursing reflex has not been fully developed and because the nurses in the nicu give the bottle.  I know that a lactation consultant has ways of teaching the baby to nurse, but often times they never learn.  This is a disadvantage because the mother is then stuck with pumping her milk or giving formula, which is not nearly as healthy or nurturing as breastmilk.  The drawbacks of pumping is that many women dry up no matter how much or how often they pump.

Keep that baby in there as long as possible, because then they have more fat and can sleep longer at night.  My baby was nine days late, but because she had a lot of fat (8lbs, 6oz) she slept 4 to 6 hours at night.  Most babies need a feeding every 2 to 3 hours and that is miserable.  So I was greatly blessed by the sleep.  K I hope this was informative, take care.

  6. nope...keep the baby in there as long as possible :)

  7. my best friend just had to deliver at 30 weeks.  the baby is 2 lbs 13 oz (she gained an oz).  my friend's kidneys had shut down due to preeclampsia.  sucks, but delivery saved her life.  the baby is doing great.  she's in the NICU, but no tubes except the nasal feeding tube.   I'm just glad i didn't lose my friend.  if she had stayed home that day, instead of going to her appointment, she would have died.  that's how high her BP was.  at 30 weeks, the baby's lungs are good, and survival rates are very high.

  8. my sister in law did, and the baby is perfectly fine. he just turned 2 aug. 4th

  9. My brother was born at 28 weeks and was perfectly healthy after a short stay in special care.
