Question:

Anyone had this happen when using Listerine Whitening Rinse??

So I recently started using Listerine Whitening Pre brush Rinse, after each use I am having clear/white stringy c**p in my mouth - this happens throughout the day or night after using the listerine. It is almost like my gums are shedding or something - there is no pain involved. Anyone else using this stuff and having the same reaction? I am wondering if it could be a problem or if it is normal?

  1. Erm, like, the white stuff is just pieces of your cheek and gums. No biggie. Lol. It is completely normal. Okay? Nothing to worry about. It happens to like everyone who uses it.

  2. We see this all the time.  Your mouth is more than likely telling you that it doesn't like the chemicals.  Listerine has SO MUCH alcohol in it and can aggravate your tissues.  This also happens with certain toothpastes as well.  Suggestion:  Switch to something plain.  ClosysII is a product you can get at Walgreens stores.  It doesn't contain fluoride so I would recommend using a "Cavity Protection" toothpaste in addition.  No TARTAR CONTROL, MULTICARE, or WHITENING pastes.  All contain abrasives and other ingredients that can cause that sloughing as well.

Examples of toothpastes that shouldn't cause the sloughing are:  Crest Cavity Protection and Colgate Cavity Protection.  If you need a rinse, the closys I mentioned above is antibacterial and it  kills bad breath instantly (its the chlorine dioxide in it that kills the bacteria and neutralizes the odor causing sulfa compound).

Just think about it...A rinse that whitens the teeth?  Has to be somewhat harsh on the mouth....

    Hope this helps!
